Mikhail Ovechkin cried after his son won the Stanley Cup

On June 7, the Washington Capitals defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 and captured the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. Caps captain Alex Ovechkin geeked out and hugged his pregnant wife Nastya on the ice postgame, but his mind drifted quickly to one of his biggest supporters who wasn’t able attend: his dad.

According to a Russian reporting, Ovechkin’s mother Tatyana said that Mikhail was not well enough to travel to the United States during the Capitals championship run. Ovechkin called Mikhail, who’s had health problems over the years, in Moscow immediately after the Caps’ Stanley Cup victory.

After Alex Ovechkin says goodbye, Michal Kempny receives Stanley Cup and takes it to backyard party at his home

Alex Ovechkin partied all weekend with the Stanley Cup. He finally relinquished the NHL’s championship trophy Sunday night.

The Russian machine had a special message for Capitals defenseman Michal Kempny, who would be receiving the trophy next.

Alex Ovechkin and his parents took the Stanley Cup to the grave of his late brother, Sergey

Between Cup stands and caviar, Alex Ovechkin found a quiet moment of reflection in his family’s former apartment Sunday morning, sprawled out on a twin bed in his childhood room. The Russian machine closed his eyes and put one arm around the Stanley Cup.

13 seasons after making his NHL debut, Ovechkin finally won his first championship as a member of the Washington Capitals. But that dream likely would not have been realized without his late brother.

A short time later, Ovechkin, along with his mother Tatyana and father Mikhail, made their way to a cemetery to share the championship trophy with Sergey Ovechkin.

Alex Ovechkin fills Stanley Cup with caviar during private party in Moscow

On Sunday, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin continued his celebrations with the Stanley Cup. After making an impromptu visit to the Red Square with the championship trophy, surprising the tourists gathered there, he then moved on to a private party with family and friends at Modus, a high-scale Moscow restaurant.

While there, he revealed an extravagant cake, which featured a rotating, miniature figure of Ovechkin holding the Stanley Cup, but that certainly wasn’t the only extravagance.

Ovechkin also filled the bowl of the Cup with black caviar to share with his guests.

Alex Ovechkin lives his life simply. He wears Nike shirts and sweatpants for almost any occasion. He spends his free time playing video games and grilling. But when the Russian machine goes big, he goes to a level that’s absurd.

Alex Ovechkin slept with the Stanley Cup again. This time at his childhood home in Russia.

Alex Ovechkin’s day with the Stanley Cup has turned into a weekend rager in Moscow. And once again, Ovechkin had some close personal time with Lord Stanley’ championship trophy.

Philip Pritchard, the NHL’s Keeper of the Cup, tweeted out two photos of the Russian machine sleeping with the Stanley Cup.

Alex Ovechkin spontaneously carries Stanley Cup through Red Square in Moscow

On Saturday, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin had his official day with the Stanley Cup. He took it to the FIFA World Cup Fan Fest, Dynamo Moscow’s headquarters, and to a private party at Arbat Hall. Per NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti, Ovechkin was also scheduled to have the Cup on Sunday, for a less public celebration.

However, Ovi spontaneously decided to walk through the Red Square in Moscow, with the Stanley Cup held high above his head. He was, as you might expect, mobbed by fans that realized what was happening.

Alex Ovechkin tours Moscow with Stanley Cup, stops at Fan Fest, Dynamo HQ and parties the night away

On Saturday, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was reunited with the Stanley Cup for his day with the trophy.

Ovechkin, who returned to Russia in late June, with enough merchandise in tow for the entire country, chose to spend his day with the Cup in his hometown of Moscow. He visited the FIFA World Cup Fan Fest — ahead of Russia’s clash with Croatia in the quarter-final — as well as his hometown club, Dynamo Moscow, before heading to Arbat Hall for a party with his friends and Russian teammates, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov.
