Alex Ovechkin’s birthday party was a gigantic event and his cake was no different.
Standing several feet tall, the birthday cake features the Ovechkin family standing on the Stanley Cup. Alex, Nastya, Sergei, and Baby Ilya, appear to be made out of clay or a fondant icing. Sergei is holding a hockey stick.

Russian forwards Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin are two of the greatest hockey players of their generation. They have been linked together since childhood. The two played together as teenagers on Russian national teams. They were selected one and two in the 2004 NHL Draft. For nearly two decades, they’ve ferociously competed against each other in one of the biggest rivalries in hockey.
Off the ice, the two have become close friends after some initial tumult in the NHL, and during Ovechkin’s 35th birthday celebration, it was Malkin who had some of the kindest words.

The sweetest moment of the party happened when Ovechkin slow danced with his mother Tatyana.
Alex Ovechkin turned 35 last Thursday, but today he celebrated his birthday belatedly in style. And by in style, I mean in fancy suits and someone likely dropped six figures to make this happen.
Ovechkin’s birthday party was held at Orion Hall, a concert venue in his native Moscow. The party featured celebrity appearances by teammates Ilya Kovalchuk and Dmitry Orlov as well as Penguins rival Evgeni Malkin. Malkin even got a hug from Ovi.
