The winningest team of the 2010s ended said decade losing two games in a row in regulation…because of course they did. The Washington Capitals fell to their former bench boss and his New York Islanders by a score of 4-3 to end 2019.
The Caps out-shot the Isles 38 to 22 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 70 to 39.

The Washington Capitals wrapped up 2019 with a messy home game against Barry Trotz’s New York Islanders. I doubt anyone’s happy with this game. Oh, except maybe Evgeny Kuznetsov.
Casey Cizikas kicked us off with a neat deflection of a point shot. Brock Nelson’s shot through Orlov’s screen made it 2-0 Isles early, but Evgeny Kuznetsov responded with an exploitation of a defensive breakdown by New York. Tom Wilson finished off a busy first period with a danger-close tip-in off Backstrom’s pass.
Tied 2-2 entering the second, Kuznetsov got his second goal of the game, a wrister from the slot. New York answered with two goals — another from Cizikas that outsmarted Holtby, and a sharp passing sequence finished off by Tom Kuhnhackl.
The Caps buzzed late in the third period, but they couldn’t catch up.

Back from injury, Tom Wilson obviously feels well enough to score a greasy goal from the paint, notching his 13th of the season.
Wilson’s tally tied the game in the first period.
Evgeny Kuznetsov snuck one more goal into 2019 to get the Caps on the scoreboard against the Isles on New Year’s Eve.
To celebrate, Kuzy brought back the bird celly.
Nic Dowd was a late scratch for the Capitals-Islanders’ New Year’s Eve game. That’s because Paige, Nic Dowd’s wife, went into labor with their first child earlier in the day.
The Capitals announced the news less than a half-hour before puck drop.
Final game of 2019 and the Capitals are hosting an afternoon rendezvous with the New York Islanders.

We made it! It’s the final game for the year of 2019 and the Capitals are home hosting and early showdown against the New York Islanders.
If any of you are going out tonight, do not drink and drive. I don’t have any power to ban you from everything, but I will ban you from my life. Be safe and have fun! If you’re not going out, I hope you get some good rest or get to watch something good on TV.
