Capitals make it five straight wins with shutout takedown of hot Rangers: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals made the trip up to New York City to take on the Rangers for the first time this season and left with all the points.

Their 4-0 win over a Rangers team that had won eight of their last ten coming into the action sees the Caps currently in a playoff spot in the East and is their tenth victory in the month of December.

What a great team effort.

Caps beat Rangers 4-0 for big division win

The Washington Capitals finally played their first game of the season against the New York Rangers and earned a very impactful regulation win.

Marcus Johansson opened up scoring with a power-play goal, cleaning up a loose puck in the paint. In the second, Erik Gustafsson was the late guy on a rush attack, and before the period was up Lars Eller added a skill goal from the slot.

Conor Sheary got a shorty – no jokes, please – and that was that.

Caps win! Darcy Kuemper shutout!

The Washington Capitals are back from their holiday break and their first test will be against the New York Rangers. Done is Alex Ovechkin’s history (for now). This game is a big one. The Capitals and Rangers are seperated by one point in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers have 43 and the Capitals have 42.

Tonight’s game is on NBC Sports Washington. Puck drop is a few minutes after 7 pm.
