WeRateDogs rates Capitals puppy Captain a ’14/10 an honor to pet’

The Washington Capitals were graced by the famous Twitter account @dog_rates at Capital One Arena on Friday.

WeRateDogs, which has 8.6 million followers (approximately 6 Alex Ovechkin Instagram accounts), specializes in rating canines. Think Todd Reirden ranking Tom Wilson’s attraction level but for dogs and their overall cuteness.

Matt Nelson, the Twitter account’s fluffy-haired founder, gave Captain a 14/10 rating and “an honor to pet.”

Ilya Samsonov becomes fastest Capitals goaltender ever to 10 wins

Ilya Samsonov was the first star of the night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 22-year-old rookie stopped 27 of 28 Blue Jackets shots, a .964 save percentage, to earn the 2-1 overtime victory.

And he had a special person in attendance for the game.

Finally beating those Blue Jackets: numbers for the morning after

It took them three tries this season, but the Washington Capitals have finally downed their Metro Division rivals, the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Caps 2-1 win in overtime sends them into the back half of their back-to-back with momentum.

The Caps out-shot the Jackets 36 to 28 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 56 to 39.

TJ Oshie’s overtime game-winning goal gives Caps first win over Columbus this season

It took a big hit, a career-first NHL fight, a between-the-legs pass, and a stellar goaltending performance to get the Washington Capitals to overtime. When there, Lars Eller earned the Capitals a powerplay. Then TJ Oshie took care of the rest.

Oshie’s overtime goal gave the Capitals a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets – the only team that has dominated them this season. Columbus had given Washington two of their seven regulation losses this season including their only shutout.

The Caps celebrated by converging into a giant ball of humanity in the corner and began hopping up and down together as a group.

Alex Ovechkin is skipping the All-Star Game again

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is choosing to skip the 2020 All-Star Game and will opt to rest for the second half of the season. The news was first reported by The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir.

This is the second consecutive year Ovechkin has chose a suspension over participating in All-Star Weekend. The Great Eight skipped last year’s game after winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career.

Richard Panik just had his prettiest play as a Capital.

The third-line right-wing went through-the-legs to find Carl Hagelin for the game-tying goal.

The third-period forced overtime against the world-beating Blue Jackets.

Merciful overtime winner: Caps beat Blue Jackets 2-1

The Washington Capitals were right back into the fray after the holiday break against a Metro Division foe in the Columbus Blue Jackets that they have to solve so far this season. Would the puzzle finally get put together for the good guys?

Jakob Lilja opened the scoring in the second with his first career NHL marker. Carl Hagelin’s first of the season tied the game at one. TJ Oshie mercifully downs Columbus in overtime.

Jonas Siegenthaler gets in first NHL fight with Nick Foligno after Tom Wilson hit

Jonas Siegenthaler got in his first NHL fight against Nick Foligno Friday night. The Swiss defender did not win the fight, but looked respectable in it.

The two players came to blows on the very next shift after Tom Wilson laid out Jakob Lilja with a big hit in the corner.

Tom Wilson lays out Jakob Lilja with one of the biggest hits of the year

Tom Wilson is a human locomotive and late in the second period, the Tom Train slammed into 26-year-old Jakob Lilja. The hit sent the Swedish forward careening into the end boards and temporarily out of the game.

It was the second gigantic hit Tom has thrown against the Blue Jackets.
