After recording a primary assist on Michal Kempny’s first-period goal, Ovechkin passed Jean Beliveau on the NHL’s all-time points list.

Friday night, the Washington Capitals took down the New York Rangers 5-2 in their last home game before a five game road trip. Safe travels, boys.
The Caps out-shot the Rangers 36 to 28 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 50 to 32.

Garnet Hathaway had himself a night.
He got blown up by a hit, fought a Rangers player, drew a penalty, and scored a goal.
After the game, the scrappy American was given the Capitals’ hard hat – a Washington Nationals’ batting helmet. As he conducted his postgame interview, blood eked out of his nose.
“Yeah it was broken,” Hathaway said to reporters.

The NL champion Washington Nationals were at the Capitals game on Friday. And they were intimately involved all night.
Adam Eaton announced the starting lineup in the Capitals locker room while ace Max Scherzer dropped the ceremonial first baseball.
Capitals fans also had an opportunity to welcome most of the team to the game during the first period. Wes Johnson announced the Nats were in the house over the loudspeaker during a break in play. After a montage video played, the Nats were shown on the jumbotron while the Foo Fighters’ Times Like These played overhead.
The crowd roared.
The Washington Capitals met up with a couple blueshirts from The Empire State for Michal Kempny’s return to the lineup. In a battle of handsome netminders, who would end up with the big ole W?
TJ Oshie drew an early power play and was the goal scorer on said power play. Pavel Buchnevich tied things up with a power play goal of his own. Michal Kempny announced his return with a goal. Nic Dowd’s first of the year extended the lead.
Artemi Panarin brought the Rangers within one after a sweet give and go. TJ Oshie tipped home a drive from the point. Garnet Hathaway empty netter.

On Wednesday, the Washington Capitals asked WNBA champion Elena Delle Donne to announce the starting lineup inside the locker room before their game against the Maple Leafs. The Capitals went on to win 4-3 and after the game, Capitals forward Tom Wilson invited EDD back on his Instagram Story because hockey players “are superstitious.”
Delle Donne did not return for the Caps’ game against the New York Rangers on Friday, but another recent champion did the honor instead.
Outfielder Adam Eaton, a member of the National League champion Washington Nationals, got the Caps pumped up before the game.
Michal Kempny waited seven months while he recovered from a hamstring injury. In his first game back he waited just four minutes to score.

Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer dropped the ceremonial first puck ahead of the Capitals-Rangers game. Except, Max didn’t bring a puck.
He brought a baseball.

The Washington Capitals are in business again at home, this time against a Metro Division rival in the New York Rangers. The Rangers played last night and loss 5-2 to the New Jersey Devils, so this is prime opportunity for the Caps to beat up on some tired legs.
