Hello again and welcome back to the absolute insanity that you choose to subject yourself to each year. That insanity being this series of posts and Capitals hockey.

It’s the start of something new and it feels so right to be here with you. And now looking in your eyes, I feel in my heart…that this season will be a good one. Join me as we row down the many rambling rivers of a full 82-game season on the statistical gondola of truth.

The Caps kicked their 2022-23 campaign off with a not-so-hot start, dropping their Home Opener to the Boston Bruins 5-2. Let’s talk about that.

Highlights from the Capitals’ 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins

The Washington Capitals lost their season opener to the Boston Bruins 5-2 on Wednesday.

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who had scored 13 goals in his previous 17 Home Openers, was held off the scoresheet but did have three shots and nine hits.

Caps drop season opener to Bruins, 5-2

The Washington Capitals lost their first game of the season, but I thought they were fine. Seems like the Boston Bruins just got the bounces and finished all their big plays. Let’s get into it.

Listen. Goal summaries are hard. Let’s ease into it gradually. The Bruins scored the first three goals: Bergeron from a rebound on the power play, Pastrnak with some good movement then fast release from the slot, then Hall with an odd-man rush. The Caps got the next two: Strome setting up Mantha at the goal mouth, then Sheary with an end-to-end clinic. David Krecji executed a two-on-one to make it 4-2 late in the third. Lindholm got the empty-netter. Okay, that wasn’t too bad.

Caps lose.

Capitals vs. Bruins live blog and updates (Oct. 12, 2022)

This is your place to check for updates and comment along with the Capitals-Bruins game on October 12, 2022.

After being first-rounded for a fourth consecutive year, the Washington Capitals are back for a new season. (Shoutout to Ethan and his toy trucks for keeping me busy.) The Capitals will host the Boston Bruins at Capital One Arena for their Home Opener. While the Capitals’ roster has a new look, it’s just as stinkin’ old as last year.

What to look for? The Capitals have a bunch of new guys. Here are their jersey numbers. Over the offseason, the Capitals axed their two-headed young goalie monster and acquired two veterans, which will hopefully lower our collective blood pressures this year. The Caps now sport 2022 Stanley Cup champion goaltender and generally smiley person, Darcy Kuemper. The mustachioed Charlie Lindgren will serve as Kuemper’s backup. On offense, the Capitals will look to replace injured forwards Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson with Dylan Strome and Connor Brown. The biggest surprise of Training Camp was Aliaksei Protas who will skate on a super lorge second line.

Alex Ovechkin will also continue his chase of Wayne Gretzky’s once-thought-impossible-to-catch goals record. After scoring 50 goals last season, Ovechkin sits at 780 and trails second-place Gordie Howe by 21. If Ovi can score 50 again, he will have the most 50-goal season in NHL history.

Tonight’s game will be on national TV and can be viewed on TNT. Sure, we might be Joe B and Locker-less, but we’ll get them tomorrow night on NBC Sports Washington against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
