The Washington Capitals hosted the St. Louis Blues on Friday night and did not lead a single time in the game after allowing a goal on St. Louis’ first shot of the contest. The Blues left eventual 5-2 victors as the Caps once again struggled to defend their net.
The stats are probably going to flatter the Caps a bit but the overall performance was not good.

The St. Louis Blues were in town on Friday night and it was an “important” game according to Caps head coach Peter Laviolette. Would his players respond to the occasion?
Sammy Blais struck very early on to give St. Louis a first-period lead. Jordan Kyrou doubled that lead on a breakaway. Kasperi Kapenen and Blais added two more in the second to make it four for the visitors.
Martin Fehervary finished off a pretty pass from Alex Alexeyev to get the Caps on the board. Nicklas Backstrom doubled the Caps total very late in the third. Brayden Schenn empty netter.
Blues beat Caps 5-2.

The Washington Capitals will take on the St. Louis Blues at Capital One Arena tonight. Ahead of puck drop, Peter Laviolette described it as another “very important game” and if you want my opinions about this perspective, just read this long opinion post.
The game will mark the second return of popular 2018 Stanley Cup champion, Jakub Vrana, this year to Cap One while Anthony Mantha, the dude he was traded for three years ago, will be a healthy scratch. Vrana has four goals in five games since being traded to St. Louis.
Tonight’s game is on NBC Sports Washington. Puck drop is a little after 7 pm. It’s Go Green Night.
