Sidney Crosby addressed the embellishment call he received in Game 3 against the Philadelphia Flyers, which received major headlines across hockey media.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain was high-sticked by Garnet Hathaway as the Flyers forward made his way over to the faceoff circle. After Hathaway’s stick appeared to hit Crosby at least partially in the visor, the future Hockey Hall of Famer dropped like a sack of bricks. Both players left the ice with minor penalties, and Crosby received the first embellishment penalty of his career.
“He hit me in the face with his stick,” Crosby said to the media on Friday, per DK Pittsburgh Sports, after the team’s practice. “I don’t know what else you want me to tell you. You can make up what you want to make up. But that’s a fact. He got away with it. It’s a good trade-off for him.”
The headline-making moment continued in the penalty box, where a Flyers fan gave Crosby a skeptical look – like everyone knows you dived – and Crosby responded with a big smile.
Ultimately, neither team scored while Crosby and Hathaway were off the ice, but the Flyers went on to beat the Penguins 5-2, taking a 3-0 lead in the series.
Saturday, the Flyers will go for a sweep of the Penguins on home ice. Puck drop for the game is at 8 pm.
