Martin Fehervary found his way onto an Olympic scoresheet for the first time on Wednesday.
Fehervary notched his first career Olympic point for Slovakia against Germany, contributing to his nation’s dominant 6-2 quarterfinal victory. The 26-year-old rearguard recorded the secondary assist on Slovakia’s first goal of the game, scored by Pavol Regenda.
Fehervary sent a pass to fellow defender Erik Cernak, who then fired a shot from the point that Regenda tipped past Philipp Grubauer. The goal came 18:06 into the first period and was the lone tally in the opening frame.
The Slovaks then got additional markers from Regenda, Milos Kelemen, Oliver Okuliar, Dalibor Dvorsky, and Tomas Tatar. Germany goes out of the tournament after only getting two goals from Lukas Reichel and Frederik Tiffels.
Fehervary skated a team-high 22:01 of ice time in the win.
The Slovaks won a bronze medal at the 2022 Games in Beijing, China. In best-on-best play, their highest-ever finish is 4th, which they achieved at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
If the remaining top seeds win their quarterfinal matchups, Slovakia is on track to play Team USA in the semifinals.
