The Capitals posted a highlight video featuring all of Ovi’s milestone points on social media.
Ovechkin is now on pace to tie Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record (894) on April 2 at Carolina and break it April 6 against the Islanders.
The 39-year-old’s 33 goals this season rank him fourth in the NHL, tying him with Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor. Only Leon Draisaitl (46), Mark Scheifele (35), and William Nylander (35) have more. Ovi’s in the top 5 in goals despite missing 16 games earlier in the season due to a broken leg.
Ovechkin also now leads the league in empty-net goals with 8, extending his NHL record to 65.
