ARLINGTON, VA — The Washington Capitals welcomed a four-legged friend to Tuesday’s morning skate. Hammy the Talking Corgi stopped by MedStar Capitals Iceplex to watch practice ahead of Caps Canine Night against the Anaheim Ducks.
Hammy, an eight-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, has a huge following on social media as he and owner Chris Equale go on adventures and engage in various fluffy shenanigans. Since 2020, Hammy has amassed 6.9 million followers on TikTok and 6.7 million on YouTube.

After observing the morning skate — garnering the attention of players watching from the bench –Hammy gave an impromptu yet paws-itively perfect press conference, complete with a dog-sized Caps jersey.
Though Tuesday marked his Capitals debut, Hammy is no stranger to the NHL. Last spring, he took part in the festivities at the Stadium Series game between the New York Islanders and Rangers, attending as a special guest at MetLife Stadium.
Hammy also has past connections to DC sports, participating in the Washington Wizards’ Hoops and Hounds night on January 5. The inaugural event allowed fans to purchase tickets for their dogs to watch the game, with The Athletic’s Josh Robbins reporting 140 dogs attended.
The Capitals will have plenty more fluffy festivities to come for Caps Canine night, including an appearance from former team dog Biscuit, now serving at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Multiple service animals from America’s VetDogs will be honored as well as player puppy walk-ins featuring adoptable dogs from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. Hammy, alongside other ‘dog influencers,’ will come to the arena for the paw-ty.
