The Washington Capitals announced they sent 2024 first-round pick Terik Parascak back to juniors on Tuesday, reducing their roster to 28 active players.
Parascak returns to the WHL’s Prince George Cougars for a second season after playing in one preseason game for the Capitals while at Training Camp. He registered a primary assist in a 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on September 22.
Parascak made a splash in his debut season with the Cougars as he he rose to the top of the team’s lineup and made the 2024 CHL All-Rookie Team. With a total of 105 points (43g, 62a) in 68 games, Parascak led all CHL rookies in points, goals, and assists, earning himself the nickname “Super Rookie.”
He remained with Washington through two major rounds of cuts, a move head Coach Spencer Carbery explained was to help Parascak get acclimated to the team.
“We just want to keep him involved as our first round pick and yeah, we’ll see where it goes,” he said Monday. “I’m not going to commit to him necessarily playing tomorrow or the Boston game but we’re going to keep him around for now.”
Parascak told reporters last week that his stint with the Capitals gave him “tons of confidence” as he prepares for his second season in the WHL.
“I just kind of tried to come in here with a learning mindset of learning from the older guys, how their day to day is and what it takes to be ready on a game day and what it takes to do out there on the ice.”
The Capitals will play their final preseason game against the Boston Bruins on Saturday before beginning their regular season against the New Jersey Devils on October 12.
