In a highly-edited sponsored post, the Washington Capitals announced that Alex Ovechkin was back on the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic suspended the 2019-20 season on March 12.
Ovechkin can be seen doing drills, racing down the ice, and smiling in what is the best sight I’ve seen months.

Y’all the king’s back.
Alex Ovechkin made his Phase 2 debut today at @MedStarIceplex, where he joined teammates Lars Eller, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Braden Holtby, John Carlson and Garnet Hathaway as well as a couple of assistant coaches. Biggest group yet. (Video courtesy of the Capitals.) pic.twitter.com/rmasC9BC21

We first had an inkling Ovi was back when he filmed his son Sergei on their driveway rifling backhanders into the back of the family’s street-hockey net on Thursday.
Ovechkin spent the first half of the coronavirus pandemic at home before the fam traveled down to their Miami Beach home for the birth of their second child, Ilya, in late May. Ovechkin worked out with his personal trainer, Pavel, for a majority of the break and at times, Evgeny Kuznetsov. Ovi also skated with a group of current and retired NHL’ers at a Pembroke Pines, FL rink.
