Washington Capitals teammates Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov worked out together with Ovechkin’s personal trainer Pavel Burlachenko on Monday. All three were at Ovechkins Northern Virginia home. The two Russians are training together despite “stay at home” orders issued by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.
The video was posted by Ovechkin’s wife Nastya from the window of their home. Kuznetsov can be seen giving Pavel a pound after performing some ab exercises.
During a teleconference last week, Ovechkin revealed that he was trying to stay busy at home but was getting bored.
“I have a small gym and we just go run in the street, play some soccer and ride the bike and just try to stay [active],” he said.
Ovi revealed that his trainer Pavel had already planned to be with him for what was supposed to be the Capitals’ home stretch before the playoffs.
“I am lucky enough to have my coach, my trainer with me, he’s helped me a lot, obviously,” Ovechkin said. “Because you get used to being with the team, working out with the team all year and right now you are kind of by yourself. It’s kind of hard to push yourself. Sometimes I don’t want to do it but he says, ‘OK let’s go, we have to work out.’ It is always a good time to sit on the couch and watch TV and play with [Sergei], but you never know when the season is coming back and you have to be in shape. So I try to do my best. It is kind of hard, to be honest with you. But in this situation, you have to (do) the best way you can.”
According to Brian MacLellan, none of the Capitals players have coronavirus or complained of any symptoms.
“We’ve had no symptoms, no sickness complaints,” MacLellan said. “We’re pretty much daily checking in with players to see if they’re exhibiting any.”
He added, “We’re trying to be prepared for anything that might come down the hopper, if we get a chance to continue to play.”
