Zero: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals dropped the second half of their home and away “series” against the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 3-0. It’s only the second time the Caps have been shutout this season.

The Caps out-shot the Jets 34 to 32 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 52 to 48.

  • Getting shutout is never a good thing, but I didn’t really have a huge problem with the effort the Caps put out there in this one. Connor Hellebuyck was just hella good. There were still a few ridiculous, individual turnovers in the defensive zone that are unacceptable, but I felt like the Caps created enough quality in this game to win it on a different night.
  • There’s not much to really talk about when the boys don’t get on the scoreboard, so I’m reaching with this one. Carl Hagelin will play in NHL game number 600 on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild.
  • Putting Richard Panik on the fourth line has seemingly resurrected that trio’s dominant five-on-five play. Caps got 80-percent of the scoring chances and high danger chances with him on the ice.
