Jake Guentzel injured in crash into boards after scoring goal

Pittburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel suffered an apparent injury on Monday night. Immediately after scoring his 20th goal of the season and 200th career point, Guentzel ran into the boards hard, causing visible trouble with his shoulder or arm.

The goal was fantastic. Evgeni Malkin drew defender Cody Goloubef and goalie Marcus Hogberg out of the crease, allowing Guentzel a layup to give Pittsburgh their fifth and final goal of the night. But in his followthrough, Guentzel got tripped by the stick of defender Thomas Chabot. Guentzel lost his balance and ran into the boards with his head and right arm. He was able to get up and leave the ice under his own power, but he did not return for the game’s final 13 minutes.

There is no status update as of yet.

With 43 points, Guentzel leads the Penguins. Earlier on Monday, he was named to the All-Star Team for the first time in his career.
