The Colorado Avalanche were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the San Jose Sharks in Game Seven on Wednesday night.
On Friday morning, TSN’s Gord Miller reported that goaltender Philipp Grubauer would be joining Team Germany at the IIHF World Championship.

The addition of the Stanley Cup champion will certainly bolster Germany’s roster. In the NHL playoffs he had as many points as Sidney Crosby and registered the first ever playoff shut-out by a German-born goaltender.
Grubauer also has a strong record in international tournaments. In 2016, he helped Germany qualify for the 2018 Olympics, registering a .970 save percentage and a 0.67 goals against average in the qualifying tournament.
He also made spectacular saves and backed the team with performances like a 48-save effort against Team Canada during the 2017 World Championships.
Germany’s next games are Saturday morning against Great Britain and Sunday morning against Denmark.
