With thirty saves on Saturday night, Braden Holtby recorded his seventh career playoff shutout, setting a Capitals record in the process. Holtby surpassed Olie Kolzig for the most playoff shutouts in franchise history.

After the win, Holtby pointed to the successful kill of John Carlson’s questionable goaltender interference penalty in second period as the turning point of the game. Holtby laid praise on the Capitals’ composure and forecheck, and downplayed his own accomplishment.
Holtby was asked about what a shutout can do mentally for the confidence of a goaltender in the playoffs.
“Nothing,” Holtby said. “It’s a win. We regroup, we know they’re going to come back harder next game and we focus on that.”
After being asked what it meant for him to set a franchise record, Holtby replied, “I don’t know. It means I’m getting old.”
