Humboldt Broncos forward Kaleb Dahlgren rocked the red in Game Four

On April 6, 2018, tragedy struck when a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos was involved in a fatal collision with a truck. 29 members of the Saskatchewan Junior ice hockey team were on board, of which only 13 survived.

The Capitals paid tribute to the victims, along with the wider hockey community, as the survivors continued to share their own recovery progress and stories about the team.

One surviving player, Kaleb Dahlgren, was in attendance at Capital One Arena for Game Four on Monday, sporting his Humboldt Broncos jersey. Though he lifted it up when he was caught on camera during the pregame to reveal a surprise for Capitals fans in attendance.

Dahlgren, underneath his Humboldt jersey, was sporting Capitals colors.

He pointed at the Capitals logo on his chest, and flashed a thumbs up at the camera, signaling his support for the boys in red.

Dahlgren has been in rehabilitation daily since the crash. He suffered a fractured skull, a puncture wound in his head, two broken vertebrae in his neck and four others in his back and a brain injury from the crash.

Regardless, Dahlgren remains determined to hit the ice once more. He received an offer from York University to play in the OUA, and has been told that he can join the team “whenever he’s ready.”

We hope that Dahlgren continues to make strides in his recovery, and we’ll eventually see him play on NHL ice in the not-so-distant future.
