With Colin Miller in the penalty box for a nasty trip on Lars Eller, the Caps went to the power play, stifling a Vegas team that had been surging early.
Just thirty seconds into the power play, Nicklas Backstrom skated along the boards and centered a pass to Evgeny Kuznetsov. The rebound hopped around the slot, which is good because that’s exactly where Oshie was heading. Oshie used his skates to put a couple touches on the puck before roofing it over Marc-Andre Fleury’s pads.
Capitals fans watching outside of the arena went wild.
So did Oshie and the Capitals.
Ovechkin leaped into the hockey hug.
Before the game, Oshie went viral for metro’ing to the game, but it was what happened after he arrived at the Gallery Place stop that made news. Oshie was 35 cents short on his exit fare. Thankfully, Metro gave him a pass this one time.
Mark that down as Oshie’s 8th goal of the postseason.
