Alex Ovechkin scores goal, game-winning shootout tally to break Caps three-game losing streak

Heading into Thursday night’s game against the Boston Bruins, the Caps had lost three-straight games — two of which they scored 0 goals — and looked listless in this process.

Lars Eller finally broke the 177-minute goalless streak in the second period. Then Alex Ovechkin did his thing. The Capitals captain tallied his 24th goal of the season on the powerplay and later scored the game-winning goal in the shootout to once again prove the Capitals are not suck

A slippery Ovechkin, who typically goes backhand, deked to his forehand and beat Burins goaltender Anton Khudobin to the top corner of the net.

John Carlson was so excited he forgot how to celebrate.

Did I mention John Carlson was excited?

The shootout attempt marked Ovechkin’s 100th of his career. He’s scored 31 times in the skills competition.

Ovechkin’s second period tally was the 582nd goal of his career.

The tally also gave Ovi a share of the league lead in goals with Nikita Kucherov (24) and tied him with TJ Oshie for the team lead in PPGs (7). It was also Ovechkin’s 219th-career power play goal, which is the 10th-most all-time. According to the Capitals PR, Ovechkin sits 14 power play goals shy of passing Dino Ciccarelli (232) for ninth place on the NHL’s all-time list.
