On Thursday evening, the Capitals put on their best suits and ties for the team’s annual Caps Casino Night. All proceeds from the event, hosted in the casino ballroom of the newly opened MGM National Harbor, benefited the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.
Players interacted with fans while playing blackjack, craps, roulette, Texas Hold ’Em, and slot machines.
There were also several live auctions and several players got involved. Caps forward Andre Burakovsky tried to win a wine tasting event with fellow teammates Brooks Orpik, Alex Chiasson, Braden Holtby, and John Carlson, but was outbid.
On the evening, through event tickets, a raffle, and silent auctions, the MSE Foundation raised $302,400 during the seventh iteration of their event.
Some of the popular items up for auction included:
- $16,000 – Escape Room Live with Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Devante Smith-Pelly, and Dmitry Orlov
- $14,000 – Bowling with Andre Burakovsky, Jakub Vrana, Madison Bowey, Christian Djoos, and Philipp Grubauer
- $6,600 – Wine Tasting with Alex Chiasson, John Carlson and Brooks Orpik, and Braden Holtby
- $5,800 – A day at the Bull Run Shooting Center with Nicklas Backstrom, Jay Beagle, Taylor Chorney, and Matt Niskanen
- Other top money items in the silent auction included a game-worn jersey autographed by Alex Ovechkin ($3,050), a TJ Oshie print ($1,825), a Welcome Your Washington Capitals Experience ($1,200), and the 2016-17 Autographed Caps Victory Puck Set ($1,000).
