Devils Entertainment Crew gives rare, inside look at NHL Situation Room during goal challenge

The Stanley Cup playoffs can often be a stressful time for fans. On Wednesday, as the New Jersey Devils took on the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Prudential Center for Game Three, they challenged a Bolts goal for being offside.

Ultimately, a call was made to the NHL Situation Room to decide whether or not the play had been offside. As fans awaited the decision, the Devils Entertainment Crew chose to have a little fun on the jumbotron.

Riffing off a popular Spongebob Squarepants meme, the Devils played a brief clip from the show, where the character Patrick Star answers the phone at his place of work. When asked, “Is this the Krusty Krab?” he replies, “No, this is Patrick.”

The meme gained notoriety when a mashup was made, in 2007, of the infamous “This is Sparta!” scene from the movie 300 and the above Spongebob Squarepants clip.

As for the goal that the Devils challenged? It was eventually deemed to be offside, tying the game back up at 1-1.

The Devils would go on to lose the game 3-1, which also gave Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead in their first round series.
