Ivan Miroshnichenko used his head (literally) to create a scoring chance.

Late in the first period against the New Jersey Devils, Capitals forward Brandon Duhaime chipped the puck out of the defensive zone. The fourth-line winger was successful in his clearing attempt, but the lob was so high that it brought the inner footballer out of Miro.

Boxing out Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton, Miro scrunched his neck and then headed the puck directly toward David Kampf. The Czech centerman then kicked the puck into open space, allowing Miroshnichenko to regather the biscuit and fire a huge shot from the top of the right circle, forcing Devils goaltender Jake Allen to make a big save.

The shot was the only one Miro got on goal against the Devils in 10:49 of ice time from Spencer Carbery.

Miroshnichenko has played in the last five games after sitting out eight straight post-recall from the AHL’s Hershey Bears on March 6. He has 3 points (2g, 1a) in those five appearances.
