John Wroblewski, the head coach of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey Team, not only brought his best strategy to the Milan Cortina Games, but he also brought his best style.
Wroblewski, 44, is wearing a white USA Hockey varsity jacket that he purchased on eBay, which has a thoughtful connection to women’s hockey history.
According to FloHockey, the jacket once belonged to Walter Bush, the former president of USA Hockey.
Bush (1929–2016) served as president of USA Hockey from 1986 to 2003 and was its chairman of the board from 2003 to 2016. A key founder of the NHL’s Minnesota North Stars, he was instrumental in advancing women’s hockey to the Olympics and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000.
Among his many roles as an executive, Bush served on the International Ice Hockey Federation Council from 1986 through 2008 and was a major reason the first-ever IIHF World Women’s Championship was held in 1990.
“International hockey wouldn’t be what it is today without his impact,” Rene Fasel, president of the IIHF, said per USA Hockey. “I doubt women’s hockey would be an Olympic sport today had Walter not pushed so hard for it in the mid-90s.”
Bush is also the namesake of USA Hockey’s national headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Walter L. Bush, Jr., Center.
So far, the jacket has brought incredible vibes to the team. They are an undefeated 4-0 in their first four outings, outscoring their opponents 20-1. They also handed Canada’s Olympic Women’s Hockey Team their first shutout loss ever — a 5-0 defeat on Tuesday.
