The Washington Capitals announced in an email to Club Red 365 members on Wednesday that they are bringing back paper tickets for the 2025-26 regular season. RMNB was forwarded a copy of the email and made aware of the news by multiple Capitals’ season ticket-holders.
The “commemorative paper tickets” are for this season only and exclusive to Club Red 365 members. The example designs feature Alex Ovechkin on every ticket, along with some of his star teammates. Notably, the April 12 ticket for the Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins game features both Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby in what could be their final regular-season game against each other.

The full details come via the Capitals announcement:

All your tickets will continue to be available both online and on mobile devices via Monumental Sports Account Manager. Please be aware that any tickets that are transferred, resold or donated through Account Manager will no longer work in paper form. Only active tickets on your account will still work. These paper tickets are being offered one-time for the 2025-26 season.
These commemorative paper tickets are available only for Washington Capitals Club Red 365 Members and are exclusive to the 2025-26 regular season. Preseason games, potential Stanley Cup Playoff games, and future seasons will be mobile tickets.
The keepsake ticket promotion comes as the soon-to-be-40 Ovechkin enters his 21st NHL season and final year of his contract. Ovechkin told media in Russia over the summer that no decision has been made about his future and he will play out all of next season before deciding what’s next.
“I understand that hockey is not forever, but I’m not thinking about it now,” he said in a recent Russian magazine interview.
Heading into the start of the regular season, Ovechkin is on the precipice of becoming the first player in NHL history to score 900 career goals and the 23rd player to suit up in 1,500 career NHL games. Every game Ovechkin scores moving forward, he will re-break the NHL goals record.
Over the years, as teams moved to mobile tickets, paper tickets have become a valuable collector’s item for games that have milestone moments or cultural significance.
For instance, tickets for Alex Ovechkin’s NHL debut game have been sold in the thousands on reselling sites like eBay, while the commemorative paper tickets the New York Islanders printed out for fans at the game where he set the new goals record are valued at around $100 to $200.
