Washington, DC is currently blessed with two of the biggest superstars in all of sports, Alex Ovechkin and Jayden Daniels. Recently the two star athletes were under the same roof when a contingent of Washington Commanders players came out to Capital One Arena for Game 2 of the Capitals’ first-round playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens.
Daniels sat glass-side behind where the Caps shot twice, and was joined by fellow quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Sam Hartman. After the Capitals’ 3-1 win, the Commanders were taken down to the locker room where Ovechkin and Daniels got to meet. Daniels told the NHL’s all-time leading goal-scorer that this was the first hockey game he’s ever been to.
“Nice to meet you,” Daniels said in the Capitals’ behind-the-scenes video.
“Yeah, this is for you,” Ovechkin replied, handing him a signed game-used stick.
“Yeah, appreciate that,” Daniels said.
While the superstars were making small talk, Ovechkin asked if Daniels enjoyed the experience.
“Yeah, it was fun,” he said. “A lot of energy. It was dope. First one ever though.”
Eventually, alternate captains Tom Wilson and John Carlson came out to greet Daniels and say their hellos.
“Thanks for coming out and boosting the crowd,” Wilson said.
“How we doing, Jayden,” Carlson added. “Nice to meet you. Seriously, thanks for your support.”
Once the meet-and-greet was done, Ovechkin signed Daniels’ black Capitol dome jersey and they hugged one final time.
“Nice to meet you, congrats,” Daniels said. “Keep going, brother.”
“Yep, keep going,” replied Ovi.
During the game, the three quarterbacks signed footballs and threw them into the stands.
Beers were also consumed.
All in all, for a first hockey game, Daniels sure looked like he had a blast.
