Tom Wilson has a lucky egg in his locker stall and he’s ‘not moving it’

Washington Capitals players have been pranking each other all season long, and now it appears Tom Wilson has become a target once again.

Monday, Wilson revealed that his locker had a new addition while speaking to the media.

“One of my teammates got me an egg,” Wilson said. “I don’t know who. It’s got my name on it, though. Lucky egg. Not moving it.”

According to RMNB’s Katie Adler, the egg in question is supposedly a real egg — not plastic — from Easter.

“I am slightly worried that it’s going to smell if they make a long playoff run,” Adler remarked.

The egg is placed near the top of Wilson’s locker stall and sits partially inside a roll of white stick tape. The egg also has an illustration. Katie was kind enough to describe what she saw, and this, to the best of my ability, is what it looks like.

The egg’s smiley face and name design look suspiciously like the stick tape drawing that was put on Wilson’s helmet earlier in the season.

The culprit, then? Capitals starting goaltender Logan Thompson.

Wilson revealed Thompson was behind the prank in a social media video for the Caps.

“Thommer’s jokes getting old,” remarked Tom Wilson as he peeled off stick tape on Matt Roy’s helmet that read ‘Matt :).’ “He always does it on camera days.”

Not only does this episode further reveal how much the 2024-25 Capitals are messing with each other, but the lucky egg also represents how superstitious this bunch remains.

During the Capitals’ magical 2018 Stanley Cup championship run, Alex Ovechkin became so superstitious that he moved an Amalie Arena stool so it was in the same place as a Game 1 win during the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Capitals went on to win Game 2, and obviously, it was thanks to the placement of the stool. Hopefully, this egg has the same magic in the second round and beyond.

Update, May 6: Here is a professional photo of the egg after Tuesday’s morning skate.
