After wrapping up their regular-season schedule against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Washington Capitals have several days to prepare before starting their first-round series against the Montreal Canadiens.
With a day off on Friday, the Capitals announced they will hold three practices before Game 1 on Monday, including a rare practice at Capital One Arena on Saturday. That skate will be closed to the public, but fans will be welcome to watch the team at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for Sunday’s practice and Monday’s morning skate, both at 10:30 am.
The team has not practiced at Capital One Arena since Training Camp, when head coach Spencer Carbery opted for a change of scenery during a week-long break between the team’s last preseason game and Opening Night.
Though they were the first team to clinch a playoff spot this season, the Capitals were the last to lock up a playoff opponent, with the Canadiens securing the final wild-card spot on Wednesday night. Montreal narrowly avoided a last-minute upset from the Columbus Blue Jackets with a win at home in Game 82 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Capitals and Canadiens will kick off their series at Capital One Arena Monday night at 7 pm.
