Alex Ovechkin is 14 goals away from immortality after a two-goal second period against the Edmonton Oilers.
Ovechkin now has 881 goals in his career and 28 goals on the season, regaining sole possession of the team lead from Tom Wilson.

Ovechkin’s first strike came on a beautiful odd-man rush by the first line. Dylan Strome sent a short pass to Ovechkin who curled to the middle of the ice and released a 90 MPH-plus wrist shot from the top of the circles. The tally gave the Capitals a 3-1 lead 8:53 into the stanza.
The goal was Ovechkin’s 880th and his first on Calvin Pickard, making the Edmonton Oilers goaltender the 181st netminder he’s beat in his career and extending his NHL record.
Ovechkin celebrated by skating over to the side boards where he found his six-year-old son Sergei and fist-bumped him through the glass. Please note, Ovi Jr. had yellow laces stitched into his black hoodie.

880 was nice, but 881 is better. With 1:21 remaining in the period, Ovechkin scored from his office, blasting a one-timer past Pickard on the power play. Ovechkin was set up perfectly in the wheelhouse by Jakob Chychrun.
Again, Ovi ambled over to his son to exchange fist bumps through the glass.
Sergei held deuces afterward, proudly celebrating his dad’s 178th multi-goal game of his career (second most in NHL history behind Wayne Gretzky 189).
Ovi’s now on pace to tie Wayne Gretzky’s goals record of 894 on April 4 against Chicago and break it on April 10 versus Carolina.
Every moment.
Every item.
