Ryan Leonard got back on the board in no. 2 ranked Boston College’s 3-0 shutout victory over no. 6 ranked Providence on Friday night. The 19-year-old winger scored the first goal of the game 7:43 into the second period, and the marker stood as the game-winner at the end of regulation.
After Gabe Perreault fed James Hagens with a cross-ice feed through Providence’s penalty-kill setup, Hagens immediately fired the puck down low to a wide-open Leonard for an easy tip-in goal. The Marker was Leonard’s 14th of the season and his second power-play goal.
The win was BC’s third since they dropped their first game out of the holiday break to Merrimack. Leonard has been quiet for his standards over his last eight NCAA games, recording just four points (3g, 1a). In his last two games, he has recorded just two shots on goal in each, which is his single-game season low.
Leonard still ranks tied for fourth in NCAA goal-scoring, having played at least two fewer games than all three players ahead of him in the nation. His 106 total shots rank second, just two shots behind Minnesota’s Jimmy Snuggerud, who has played in five more games.
In this last game against Providence, head coach Greg Brown moved Leonard off his usual line with Perreault and Hagens. Instead, Leonard played with Oskar Jellvik and Andre Gasseau.

Leonard and the rest of the Eagles will travel to Rhode Island on Saturday night to face the Friars again. After that game, they’ll prepare for a home-and-home set against Boston University, their bitter Green Line rivals.
The January 24 and 25 meetings will be Leonard’s first games against fellow Capitals prospect and Team USA teammate Cole Hutson.
