The Washington Capitals defeated the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 on Friday and improved their record to 5-0-0 after suffering a loss this season.

Inside the locker room after the game, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery was very happy with his team, especially after such a letdown loss late to the Toronto Maple Leafs at home on Wednesday.

During his post-game speech, Carbery gave shout outs to Connor McMichael (2 goals), Lars Eller (penalty drawn), Jakob Chychrun (goal), and Charlie Lindgren (17 saves).

But it was the third period where the Capitals suffocated the Avalanche and held them to only five shots that really showed made Carbery excited.

Full transcript

Spencer Carbery: A couple things. That third period was picture perfect. The way that we played, all the little plays around the bench, everybody saying the right things and then going and doing it out on the ice. There’s tons of unselfish plays littered throughout that third period. That’s a great f***ing job against a good hockey team.

(Everybody claps.)

Spencer Carbery: Mikey obviously a couple huge f***ing goals

(Everyone claps while one player yells ‘MIKEYYYYY’)

Spencer Carbery: And this guy comes into the lineup and draws the first penalty. We score on the f***ing power play.

(Everyone cheers for Lars Eller)

Spencer Carbery: The fourth goal to me was the biggest goal of the hockey game. Dubie makes a hell of a play on the entry Chych with the finish.

(Everyone claps for Jakob Chychrun)

Spencer Carbery: Last but certainly not least, that f***ing save Chuckie. All night long!

(Caps yell ‘Chuckie’ and clap.)

Charlie Lindgren: Good job, boys.

With the victory, the Capitals closed to within three standings points of the New Jersey Devils for the Metropolitan Division lead with four games in hand.
