The Washington Capitals improved their record to 9-3-0 after defeating the Nashville Predators 3-2.
The pivotal play was Alex Ovechkin’s third-period goal that gave the Capitals a lead they’d never surrender.
Dylan Strome set Ovi up, notching his 200th career assist, while Ovechkin tallied the 861st goal of his career.
Postgame though, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery wanted to focus on another part of Ovechkin’s game that he was more impressed with.
Transcript
Spencer Carbery: They gave us some issues but we f***ing fought through that, found a way. Huge goal late. Great f***ing job overall.
(Clapping)
Spencer Carbery: Stromer that was a hell of a f***ing play. The assist on O’s goal.
(More clapping)
Spencer Carbery: 200!
(Even more clapping, Strome gives bashful thumbs up)
Spencer Carbery: F***ing impressive. O, the goal, but those blocks at the end of the game.
(Ovi shakes his fist in celebration then gives a fist bump to John Carlson)
John Carlson: Selke, babe. Selke.
Alex Ovechkin: Selke, I need it.
The big blocks marked the second big defensive play Selkvechkin had over the last week. He also got on his horse and broke up an odd-man rush while back-checking against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
While I’m dubious he’ll add this trophy to his collection, these Herculean efforts get noticed by teammates and go a long way for a winning hockey team.
