Monumental Sports Network’s Craig Laughlin unearthed some mind-bending statistics while doing research for the Washington Capitals’ game against the New Jersey Devils, Saturday night.

At this exact moment in time, 1,012 games into his 16-year career, Capitals defenseman John Carlson has played in the same number of home and away games while putting up the same number of assists and shots in each classification.

Another cosmic stat, while not exactly the same, includes his average ice time, which only has a nine-second difference. Carlson’s averaged 23:34 at home and 23:43 at away games.

Overall, Carlson has faired better at home than in away games, posting 86 goals at Capital One Arena and 66 in away barns. That gives the first-pairing defenseman 349 total points at home and 329 away. His plus-minus also reflects that extra production in DC, where he’s plus-63 at home and plus-25 away.
