Ivan Miroshnichenko may be one of the most competitive players you’ll see on the ice, but off of it, he’s a bit of a goofball and always keeping things light.
The young Russian’s priceless personality was put on full display in a Capitals’ mic’d up video, which captured what things were like for him at the 2024 NHLPA Rookie Showcase.

The video starts with the talented Capitals’ forward prospect introducing himself in English, “I’m Ivan Miroshnichenko. Washington Capitals. Twenty-years-old.” And then the fun begins.
Some personal highlights of the video.
- Miroshnichenko stands with Matvei Michkov for photos. He playfully shoves him out of frame as if to say I’m the real star. (I can’t wait for this rivarly to play out at the NHL level.) Then the video clips to Miro’s arm around the Flyers’ prospect. The laughing uncontrollably begins.
- For 12 seconds, starting at the 24 second mark, Miro laughs in six different situations.
- The video then cuts to him randomly scooting on the ice between other stations while wearing flip flops.
- The media observes during a scrum interview, “You look bigger.” Miro points to equipment, “It’s the hockey gear.”
- “Banana. I like banana.”
- Miro randomly says E.A. Sports. It’s in the game. His English is great right?
- My favorite part is when the camera finds him on the ice and he gives the saddest wave.
- The video concludes with him saying, “Hey, fans. It’s Miro. See you… soon.”
Miroshnichenko’s second season in North America will officially begin next week when Capitals’ training camp starts on September 19.
