ARLINGTON, VA — The Washington Capitals welcomed another fresh face to their informal skates this week as new acquisition Jakob Chychrun hit the ice in a Capitals jersey Tuesday morning.
Chychrun joined center Dylan Strome among the new additions at MedStar Capitals Iceplex with less than a month to go before the start of training camp.

The Capitals’ new defender could be seen rocking a CCM JetSpeed FT4 during the skate.
Other players who have already arrived in DC include John Carlson, Alex Alexeyev, Matt Roy, Logan Thompson, and Pierre-Luc Dubois, Aliaksei Protas, and Jakub Vrana. Former Capitals including Nick Jensen, Anthony Mantha, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, and Lars Eller have also been spotted at the rink at times.
The Capitals traded for Chychrun on July 1, sending Jensen and a third-round pick to the Ottawa Senators in exchange. The 26-year-old blueliner was one of seven players acquired in less than two weeks as the Caps attempt to stay competitive after narrowly making the 2024 playoffs. He told reporters earlier this summer that the Capital’s busy offseason made him particularly excited to join the team.
“It seems like [Washington has] been very aggressive and it’s great to see I mean, obviously, they’re a group that wants to win and I’m just so excited,” he said. “I think they’ve done a great job of improving the team and I’m thrilled honestly. I think it’s a great fit for me personally and I’m just so excited to be able to help contribute to this team and try to take this team into the playoffs.”
Chychrun recorded 41 points (14g, 27a) last season in 82 games for the Ottawa Senators, more than any Capitals blueliner save for John Carlson. He is on the final year of a 6-year deal worth $4.6 million per season.
The Capitals are set to kick off training camp in mid-September.
