Pierre-Luc Dubois did not waste time showing off his new Washington Capitals colors.
The Capitals’ biggest acquisition of the summer played in his new red, white, and blue hockey gear while participating in the Shoulder Check Showcase held at Terry Conners Rink in Stamford, Connecticut last week. The scrimmage featured NHL players, alumni, and professional women’s hockey players and raised money for the HT40 Foundation.
PLD played in his new white Capitals helmet, featuring the Capital One ad on the sides, and his red, white, and blue gloves — both made by Bauer. The center also played with a Rekker Legend Pro stick made by Sherwood, the same company that provides twigs for Connor Bedard.
Dubois’s helmet featured his number with the Capitals, no. 80, which he will wear in honor of former teammate Matiss Kivlenieks.
The Capitals acquired Dubois from the Los Angeles Kings on June 19 for Darcy Kuemper. Dubois has seven years remaining on an eight-year contract he signed last season.
“The moment I found out it was the Washington Capitals, I was extremely excited,” Dubois said shortly after the trade. “They’re a team that growing up you were excited to watch on TV. They’re a good team every year. And then when you grow up, you hear it’s a great organization with a great group there. My emotions went from surprise and shock to just really excited. Once I talked to the coaching staff, management, a few players, I couldn’t be more excited to get there.”
PLD isn’t the only new Capitals player captured in new gear already. Defenseman Jakob Chychrun was spotted in Caps colors during a skate in mid-July.
