HERSHEY, PA — Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery is once again at Giant Center to scout and show his support for the organization’s prospects.

After attending Game 7 of the AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals, Carbery was present for Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals between the Hershey Bears and Coachella Valley Firebirds — a rematch from last season’s championship series.

The bench boss was sitting in Bryan Helmer’s luxury box. Helmer is the VP of Hockey Operations for the Bears.

Before being hired as bench boss of the Capitals, Carbery spent three seasons as Hershey’s head coach from 2018 to 2021, leading the Bears to a 104-50-9-8 (.658 point percentage). Carbery’s Bears in 2021 were awarded the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as the AHL’s best team in the regular season. Carbery also won the prestigious Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award for Coach of the Year.

Carbery attended Bears’ games last season during the Calder Cup Finals after he was hired by the Capitals in late May.
