Utah’s upcoming NHL team officially has a look for its debut season in Salt Lake City.
The team, which will go by the name Utah Hockey Club for the 2024-25 season, unveiled its jerseys and logos for the year on Thursday afternoon, as well as confirming its placeholder name.
Players will sport black, white, and blue jerseys bearing the name “Utah” across the chest when they hit the ice this fall. While the franchise won’t assume a permanent name until 2025 after several rounds of fan surveys, ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski reports that Utah will keep the same color scheme after its eventual rebranding.

After Ryan Smith’s ownership group apparently filed trademark applications for several logos earlier this month, Thursday’s announcement confirmed that the team would use four logo options for its inaugural season in their new barn: three reading “Utah Hockey Club” and one simply reading “Utah.”

With Utah Hockey Club ready to hit the ice this fall, fans and ownership have made progress towards picking a final nickname. After a round of fan voting, the team has narrowed the field to six candidates: the Utah Outlaws, Utah Yeti, Utah HC, Utah Venom, Utah Blizzard, and Utah Mammoth.
NHL confirmed Thursday that Smith Entertainment group had officially closed its transactions, formally transferring assets from the Arizona Coyotes.
Here’s the full press release from the league:
Smith Entertainment Group Closes Transaction, Utah Hockey Club Set to Begin Play in 2024-25
NEW YORK (June 13, 2024) – Smith Entertainment Group, led by Ryan and Ashley Smith, today formally closed its transactions – announced on April 18 – establishing the Utah Hockey Club beginning with the 2024-25 season.
The NHL Board of Governors previously approved a plan pursuant to which the Arizona Coyotes assumed inactive status, and a new franchise is established in Utah where it will begin play for the 2024-25 season. As of today, the Coyotes have transferred their hockey assets – including their full Reserve List, roster of Players, draft picks and Hockey Operations Department – to the Utah franchise.
“On behalf of the Board of Governors, I am delighted to officially welcome Utah to the National Hockey League,” Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “Congratulations to Ryan and Ashley Smith, their entire organization, the state of Utah and the fans as the Club continues its exciting march toward puck drop in October.”
