Alex Ovechkin has goals in four-straight games after beating Carolina Hurricanes’ goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov for his 846th tally of his career.
Taking a cross-crease pass from Dylan Strome, Ovechkin chipped the puck home on the doorstep, notching the 311th power-play marker of his career.
The goal tied the game 2-2 with 6:01 remaining in the second period. The Capitals would go on to win the game 7-6 in the shootout.
OVI SCOAR! OVI SMESH!
Ovechkin is now 48 goals away from Wayne Gretzky (894) for a share of the NHL’s all-time goals record.
With the tally, Ovi took sole possession of 13th on the NHL’s all-time points list, leapfrogging over Joe Thornton (1539). Ovechkin later added an assist on a third-period power-play goal, ending the night with 1,541 points.

Russian netminder Pyotr Kochetkov is the 175th different goaltender Ovechkin has scored on in his career. Only Jaromir Jagr (178) and Patrick Marleau (177) have scored on more goalies in NHL history. See the full list here.
Since the All-Star Break, Ovechkin is absolutely on fire and on a 56-goal pace (55.9). After an uncharacteristically slow start to the season, the Capitals’ captain has scored 16 goals in his last 23 games. Ovi now has 24 tallies on the year and has 13 games left to try and notch his sixteenth 30-goal season.
Wow. What a night.
