Alex Ovechkin scores in Capitals scrimmage (Video)

Alex Ovechkin scored his first goal since the coronavirus pandemic paused the 2019-20 season (as long as you don’t count all of these and these).

During an intrasquad scrimmage featuring all active members of the Capitals Phase 3 roster, Ovechkin tallied the only goal for Team White. Team Red was victorious 3-1.

Ovechkin’s goal came after some slick forechecking by the first line. At the left circle, Tom Wilson came out with the puck and sent a beautiful backhanded pass to Evgeny Kuznetsov who paused just enough to get the goaltender to commit. Kuzy then sent a pass to Ovechkin on the wing who chipped the puck home. He had no celebration.

Daniel Sprong scored two even-strength goals, including the game-winner, to lead Team Red to victory.

Travis Boyd added an empty-net goal late in the game.

Here were the lineups via NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti. TJ Oshie, Ilya Samsonov, and Alex Alexeyev were the only players not to participate for unknown reasons.

Other highlights include Richard Panik’s between-the-legs shot from right outside the crase.

You can watch the full scrimmage below (though warning you might get vertigo).
