Washington Capitals’ backup goaltender Ilya Samsonov did not skate for a second straight day at camp joining Alex Alexeyev and Shane Gersich on the inactive list, Tuesday.
Capitals defenseman Michal Kempny, who did not skate Monday, returned to join the team today.
Gersich, Samsonov and Alexeyev won't skate today, per the #Caps. Kempny, however, will join the group after sitting out yesterday.

It’s unclear why both Samsonov and Alexeyev have not skated, as NHL teams are only reporting who is present for skates or not. This is due to a negotiated protocol between the NHL and NHLPA which mandates teams hide the medical reasons for why players are not playing.
The two Russians were among the latest players to return to DC. Samsonov flew over from Russia on July 2 while Alexeyev did the same on June 27.
Samsonov, however has had a presence online. He hung out with the Capitals’ Russian 5 over the weekend, poorly dancing in a TikTok video for Esenia Kuznetsov.
Monday night, Samsonov, while wearing neon yellow flip flops, revealed he inked a car deal with Sport Chevrolet, a car dealership located in Tysons Corner, VA. “Thanks to my team @sportchevy for helping me get back to the game #BeASportFanToo,” Samsonov, who knows little English, said in perfect English.
Of course, Samsonov’s current and former teammates razzed him in the comments.
In Russian, Alex Ovechkin wrote “😂😂😂😂 beauty.”
Samsonov responded, “Thank you 😂😂😂”
Ilya Kovalchuk dropped laughing emojis.
Former Hershey Bears teammate Nathan Walker implored Samsonov to “drive slow.”
