Joe Beninati earns another Emmy nomination for Best Play-by-Play Announcer

NBC Sports Washington’s Joe Beninati has earned another Emmy nomination for his exemplary work as the voice of the Washington Capitals.

Beninati’s nomination as Best Sports Play-by-Play announcer was announced Thursday night by the Capital Emmys.

The graduate of Bowdoin College has won 14 Emmy awards during his 25 years covering the Capitals.

Beninati, along with analyst Craig Laughlin, was also nominated for an Emmy for his work calling the November 3 Capitals game against the Calgary Flames.

That night the Washington Nationals celebrated their World Series victory at Capital One Arena. Jakub Vrana also scored his first career hat trick.

Other local sports personalities honored include NBC Sports Washington’s Tim McDonough and Adam McKenzie for their work during the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Moises Linares, Cary Chow, and Darren Haynes were nominated for Best Sports Anchors.
