The NHLPA published its annual players poll on Tuesday. 588 different players voted on important topics such as who is the most complete NHL player and who is the worst trash talker.
Two Capitals players got some love on this year’s list: one for his exemplary play and the other for just how dang entertaining he is.
John Carlson voted second best defenseman

According to the NHLPA, the Capitals defenseman was named runner up for the first time after having a career year in 2019-20. Carlson has led all defensemen in assists and points for most of the season while his hot start gave him the NHL’s first star of the month award for October. Carlson also became the Capitals’ all-time leader in points this season after tallying a secondary assist on a Carl Hagelin goal on February 23.
Players voted Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman first overall. Hedman is a three-time Norris Trophy finalist and won the award in 2018.
Alex Ovechkin voted second best follow on social media

Meanwhile, Alex Ovechkin finished runner up behind the always entertaining PK Subban as the most entertaining player on social. While Ovechkin’s accounts on Twitter and Instagram have taken more of a business tone, his wife’s Instagram account has given a deep delve into his family life which gets shared constantly nationally. Other interesting results include most complete player (Sidney Crosby), best goaltender (Carey Price), and the best and worst trash talker (Brad Marchand). Not surprisingly, the Capitals were not voted among the finalists to have one of the best visitor’s locker room.
