Alex Ovechkin finally scores career goal number 699

Alex Ovechkin is now one goal shy of 700. With a set play off an offensive-zone faceoff, Ovechkin scored goal 699 against Carey Price.

(Well, he hasn’t scored all 699 against Price, just 22, but you know what we meant.)

It was a simple play. Nicklas Backstrom won the faceoff in the offensive zone. The puck trickled back behind, where Ovechkin seized upon it. With a natural screen and the puck slightly bobbling, Price didn’t stand chance.

Not sure he even saw it.

The Caps lead 1-0.
