Update: The Washington Capitals commented on The Athletic’s and Adam Gold’s reporting and say they will not be the Hurricanes’ opponent for the Stadium Series game. The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell reported the news.
The Washington Capitals are not the Hurricanes’ opponent in the Stadium Series game next winter at Carter-Finley Stadium, per Caps spokesman.

Original Story: Two years after hosting a Stadium Series game in Annapolis, MD, the Washington Capitals appear “likely” to be playing outdoors once again.
99.9 The Fan’s Adam Gold reported Saturday that the Carolina Hurricanes will be hosting a Stadium Series game at the home of NC State’s football team, Carter-Finley Stadium.
Gold tabbed the Capitals and the Penguins as the possible opponents.
Can confirm the Hurricanes will be hosting a Stadium Series game next winter at Carter-Finley Stadium. Date and opponent to be determined. Official announcement coming during tonight’s outdoor game in Colorado Springs.

My conversation with Tom Dundon last year surrounded either Washington or Pittsburgh as the opponent, but can’t confirm either as yet.

The Athletic’s Sara Civian confirmed Gold’s reporting of the game and revealed that the Caps will “most likely” be the team the Hurricanes play.
It’s looking like the opponent will most likely be the Caps but not 100 percent confirmed yet. Being played at Carter-Finley obviously.

According to Civian, the game will be played on February 20th. An official announcement will be made during the Colorado Avalanche-Los Angeles Kings Stadium Series game tonight played at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The game will be February 20th. Announcement will come during today’s game.

The Capitals have played in three outdoor games previously including the 2011 Winter Classic at Heinz Field against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the 2015 Winter Classic at Nationals Park against the Chicago Blackhawks, and 2018 Stadium Series game at Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium against the Toronto Maple Leafs (March 3, 2018). The Capitals are undefeated (3-0) outdoors.
And I know just the guy the Caps can sign to a PTO if this game becomes official.
