The Capitals have a Stanley Cup banner hanging at Medstar Capitals Iceplex

This is surely not new, but it’s most definitely new to me.

The Washington Capitals have a Stanley Cup banner hanging at their practice facility, MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

Nicklas Backstrom’s personal trainer, Andreas Öhgren, posted the photos on his Instagram Story Thursday as he entered the players’ lobby from the eighth floor of the Ballston Mall parking lot.

In my head, I’m imagining a throng of Capitals players, way back in the summer of 2018, gathering around this wall (wearing polo shirts and Bermuda shorts) crying into their large unkempt beards while an iceplex employee struggles on a ladder to attach the banner with silly putty. Obviously, Brett Connolly is there too eating a piece of crusty pizza he found in the locker room. Let me dream, okay.

If you want to remember back to what the actual banner ceremony was like at Capital One Arena, here is the video.

It gets me every time.
