In front of a soldout crowd, the Washington Capitals celebrated their 2018 Stanley Cup championship, Wednesday night, and raised their first championship banner to the rafters of Capital One Arena.
The event began with a speech from radio voice John Walton.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the conclusion of the greatest sports summer our city has ever known,” Walton began.
It only got better from there.
After each player of the 2018-19 team was introduced to the crowd, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin walked out of the tunnel with the Stanley Cup.
Ovechkin took a lap around the rink as Capitals fans roared.

Capitals owner Ted Leonsis then addressed the crowd, thanking them for the support.
“You and the players created lifetime positive memories we’ll take with us forever,” Capitals owner Ted Leonsis said. “Our players delivered the Stanley Cup because they love and respect you. Bless you, all, thank you, all, you all deserve this celebration.”

After a montage video set to Mumford and Sons’ I Will Wait aired on the jumbotron, the moment finally happened.

The team raised the banner.
Before the moment ended, Ovechkin waved his teammates over and the team took a brilliant photo together.

Ovechkin kissed the Stanley Cup one last time before putting it back in its case.
The chase to win it again begins anew.
