Anthony Rendon is, unfortunately, Anthony RenGone.
The Washington Nationals star third baseman has reportedly signed a seven-year, $245 million contract with the Anaheim Angels.
The news was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The Angels moved quickly to sign Rendon after failing to sign Astros ace Gerrit Cole, who agreed to a nine-year, $324 contract with the New York Yankees on Tuesday. Despite teammate Stephen Strasburg lobbying the star slugger to return, Rendon chose to move to the west coast where he’ll team with AL MVP Mike Trout.

Rendon’s contract has a no-trade clause and no opt-out. It will pay him $35 million a year, which is the largest annual average salary for a third baseman in MLB history.

Last season, Rendon had career highs in RBI (126, league lead), batting average (.319), slugging percentage (.598), and home runs (34). Rendon was also named to his first career All-Star Game. The third baseman also hit homes run in Games 6 and 7 of the World Series to help the Nationals win their first World Series.
